A fatal collision involving an RTD bus forced the closure of all westbound lanes of Interstate 70 in Denver for nearly three hours on Monday morning.

According to Denver police, the crash occurred around 6:20 a.m. near Holly Street when a vehicle struck the rear of RTD’s 15L bus. The driver of the vehicle, who was the only occupant, was pronounced dead at the scene. Their identity has not yet been released.

Officials confirmed the bus was not in service at the time and had no passengers on board. The bus driver was not injured.

The interstate was shut down between Quebec Street and Dahlia Street exits while investigators and emergency crews handled the scene. All lanes reopened shortly after 9 a.m., but the closure caused significant traffic delays, and drivers were urged to seek alternate routes.

Aerial footage showed multiple police units, an ambulance, and the damaged vehicle alongside the stopped bus.
